Cities / Tiruchirapalli : 39,329 students to get free laptops:
"About 39,329 school and college students in Tiruchi district would get the free laptops given by the government this year.
These include 22,543 Plus Two school students, 12,110 students of government and aided arts and science colleges, 2,446 students of government and aided polytechnic colleges and 2,230 students of government and aided engineering colleges.
On Friday, the laptops were distributed to 2,213 engineering and polytechnic students by N.R.Sivapathi, Minister for School Education, Youth Welfare and Sports, in the presence of Collector Jayashree Muralidharan.
INAUGURATION
The distribution exercise was inaugurated in the district by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa at a government function recently, when she distributed the laptops to 1,055 Plus Two students and 185 students of the Government Arts College at Inamkulathur.
Speaking after distributing the laptops to students at the Anna University of Technology, Tiruchi, PNRM Polytechnic, Government Polytechnic and Seshasayee Institute of Technology, Mr.Sivapathi said the scheme announced by the Chief Minister has come as a boon for students from low and middle income group families who could not afford to buy laptops."
